If I could

Erin

I would make a living from this site. I’d write and write and write.

But you know what? Despite having it suggested to me, I just can’t bring myself to put up a “members only” section that one subscribes to. I think knowledge should be free, and ideas should be free, not locked behind a “you must sign up or you die” section.

I will beg for donations, I will sell books through here, I will pimp my own books. I keep waiting for Ed McMahon to show up on my doorstep. So far nothing.

So if you know of a magazine, internet site or radio show that is looking to hire someone to write or talk, let me know. Send them my way, or have them contact me? Please? I want out of my day job, mainly because I’m stagnant in it. Right now it’s more irritant than soothing.

I need to advertise my adult toy site. I need to go out and chase the book deals that are looming. The problem there is that’s a full time job in and of itself, and I simply don’t have the time.

I’ve started an article on libations three times now. I have the outline written, but I cannot get into the mood to write it out and edit it. I’m talking this article is going to be 20 or so pages long, so this is not trivial.

To put this into perspective, the average page (if the margins are set at one inch each side and counting about 5 characters per word at 12 point type) you get about 488 words per page. Multiply that by 20 and you have a shitload. Close to 10,000 words. My articles generally run somewhere around 6-8 pages for a normal sized article, long ones to about 12 pages. This one, because of the complexity of the topic is going to be LONG.

I can do it. I’ve done it before. At the height of the classes I was teaching, I turned out 15-20 page lessons in about a day. That’s me writing somewhere around 2000 words per hour, then going back and editing it and finalizing it for the web. Yeah, that’s hard.

Take into consideration that the average book is about 150,000 words or so for a medium one, and with each chapter it increases a lot. I just found out that “The Stand” by Stephen King is 575,000 words. Apparently I’m right there with all the other authors.

So, I need time to write those words. This post took me about 20 minutes to do, with research and all, and it’s 442 words.
